Jon Campbell

Jon Campbell

Owner & Managing Director

Jon is an indulgent sort, with an insatiable appetite for decent food and wine. It all began with a formative year in Provence as part of a degree in French, starting his career in the wine trade the day after graduation. He cut his teeth at Majestic, gaining the WSET Diploma along the way before hitting the road as a Sales Manager working with leading brands such as Veuve Clicquot and Krug. Luxury brands wasn’t where his heart lay so he headed off to start Define back in August 2000. Jon has travelled to every far-flung corner of the wine world in search of liquid gold- Define was created to provide a stage for the inspirational characters and creations he’s met along the way.

Whilst occasionally wearing a ‘resting bitch face’, caused by his frequent philosophising on the human condition and the price of Burgundy, a smile, a hug and unbridled enthusiasm are never far away. He has spent most of the past 30 years either tasting, drinking, talking, writing or dreaming about wine.

An accomplished pianist, a destructive cook, a keen if useless fly fisherman, an avid fan of Leicester Tigers and Liverpool FC.

Jon is married to Alison, an emminent fertility scientist, and has 3 fine daughters. And 6 cats.
