Dave Raftery

Dave has worked at Define for the last 12 years, starting as Wine Manager before sliding down the ladder to return in a part-time assistant role after an aborted attempt to retire early came to its inevitable conclusion! We’re never quite sure if and when he’s going to rock up as he flits between Didsbury, the Lakes, Sitges and Sandiway as the whim takes him. Prior to that he ‘worked’ for 26 years as a Trading Standards Officer and Inspector of Weights & Measures (more on that riveting fact shortly!). What Dave doesn’t know about wine isn’t really worth knowing. He’ll attempt to reveal most of it at any given opportunity, continuing as you nod off. We affectionately call it ‘Death by Dave’, but the few that do survive somehow return for more, insisting on his wise counsel.

His passions are wine, Manchester United, reading, cookery,travel and building a second escape tunnel!

My greatest achievement:

A recent ‘dry’ weekend. My first in 40 years.

My superpower:

I can estimate the weight of a suitcase to half a kilo (weights & measures was useful for something)

My darkest secret:

I’m a closet Liverpool fan!
