RIVERSTONE RIDGE
This is too explicit a bargain to tuck in to, too easy to return an email saying 'I'll have a case', too obvious to circulate amongst your friends and colleagues. To enhance the eventual enjoyment of this wine, I think it's important that you go on a wee journey to build a bond with it.
CAN YOU CRACK THE ANAGRAM
The grape variety: SNOGAUVIN CLANB
Country: WEN DENZALEN
The region: RAGBORMULOH
Price: Normally £9.89, down to £9.79, or buy a case at £9.69
Sorry, probably not wise to anagramise the price: £7.99 or buy a case at £6.99
I've been sworn to secrecy to keep this schtum, so I'll anagramise it to prevent any legal action: it's made by Villa Marai. A complete bargain, ideal for summer partying.
In this day and age of instant gratifcation, or at least the perception of it, and as a region with no winegrowing heritage (watch this space!), we don't have the connection that many across Europe enjoy with their wines. For too many, wine has become something bought when it's on offer, that ticks enough of whatever boxes we've built in our brains. Wouldn't it be nice to drink a bottle made by Bob on Norley Road, or from the vineyard by the Blue Bridge, from a vineyard first planted by the Romans? I see it as my role, not just to scour the globe for great bottles, but to communicate the 'tale beyond the sale' (quite proud of that one!). We all love a good bargain (see above!), but we should all enjoy frequent dalliances with wines made by spirited visionaries, with a respect for their heritage, their vineyards and the planet. Here endeth the lesson.

Talking about sharing 'the tale beyond the sale', we still have some tickets left for our Argie Barbie night this coming Friday at Cabbage Hall, with Eduardo Pulenta all the way from Argentina there to tell you his tale. Details below in case you missed them:
PULENTA ESTATE ARGIE BARBIE NIGHT
Friday 17th June 2011
From 7.30pm
I am delighted to confirm the imminent 'coming to town' of Eduardo Pulenta, the fourth generation to be involved with one of our most popular wineries, yes, you guessed it: Pulenta Estate.
Our friend and ally, Robert Kisby at Cabbage Hall has very kindly allowed us to hijack a Friday evening, so if you have nothing in the diary for Friday 17th June, then please try and come along and give a warm Cheshire welcome to the Man from Mendoza. We'll have the full range of wines on taste, so there will be something for everybody: white, rose, red, under a tenner, over a tenner, over twenty!
We will also be launching the very limited Gran Malbec and Gran Cabernet Franc- alongside the Gran Corte that so many of you have already fallen for. We'll have a special for one night only offer on a mixed 6-pack of the 'Grans' - let's call it the 'Grab a Gran' Special shall we?!
It will be a nice cosy, informal evening, with a great range of wines matched to Argentinean food. Robert's going to have a crack at making Empanadas (mini Argie pasties!) and we're sourcing some prime Argentinean beef and other meats to cook on the bbq. Eduardo will tell us a bit about his wines, you'll get royally fed and watered, all for a rather reckless £35!!
We'll have a range of their wines available for you to taste at your leisure, as well as serving glasses of suitable styles to go with the dishes. Hopefully the sun will be shining and we can dine al fresco in the Cabbage gardens- if not we'll head indoors. We shall not be denied!
With a little help from you lot, this should be a night to remember- I hope you can make it.
Please call our ticket hotline on 01606 882101 to reserve tickets.
